How do you learn Spanish idioms and expressions?

There are some idioms and expressions that I heard such as:
1. estas hecho una sopa.
2. Cono, que pasa aqui?
3. tiene mala leche.

Would I learn these expressions through books or through like one year immersion in Spanish speaking country?

Well, I learned most of the expressions that I know from taking Spanish in high school. But, another good way to learn them is by talking to people in Spanish. You cannot learn a language if you do not speak it.
